Feedback on Comenius Day

The Italian students who participated in the workshops were asked to write about the following points:

1. How did you feel during the day?
2. What have you learnt from the experience?

Here are their reactions:

1. Some students felt confused initially because they did not understand what to do and where to go and some felt a bit uneasy because of the language barriers. Others felt a bit bored in workshops when talking and listening about school systems but they were interested when visiting the mosque and enjoyed cooking and watching other students preparing their typical dishes. On the whole they enjoyed working with students with different cultures in a friendly and collaborative atmosphere.

2. They learnt something about other students countries, like school systems, food specialities, their cultures, habits, religions and some words in their mother language. They visited a mosque for the 1^st time and learnt about the religious habits of Muslim people. They also learnt to communicate better in English and found that interaction with students from other countries is both educational and amusing. At the end they discovered that even if the language is different they had many things in common with their European friends.

3. They also gave some general feedback about what they liked best and did not like much. Many of them enjoyed the Command of the language, Getting to know each other and the typical dish workshops. The ones who went to the Mosque complained that there was not much time for asking questions and they only listened to the lady’s information. The same complaint was for the Flemish Europarliamentarian who, besides arriving late, was more interested in giving a speech than listening to the students questions, which they had prepared and were willing to ask. They did not like the Questionnaire about Knowledge of the EU because they found it boring and the Solidarity and Justice workshop because the film shown was in Nederlandese and they did not understand much. Most of them complained about the bad organization of the day but they liked the final show very much where all the groups performed and tasted each other’s food specialities.

Agli studenti italiani che hanno partecipato ai laboratori è stato chiesto di rispondere alle seguenti domande:

1. Come ti sei sentito durante la giornata?

2. Cosa hai imparato dall'esperienza?

Queste le loro reazioni:

1.       Alcuni studenti si sono sentiti confusi inizialmente perchè non avevano capito cosa dovevano fare e dove andare e altri si sono sentiti un po' a disagio a causa dalla lingua. Altri si sono annoiati a  parlare e ascoltare dei sistemi scolastici ma erano interessati a visitare la moschea e si sono divertiti a cucinare e guardare i partner stranieri preparare i loro piatti tipici. In generale si sono divertiti a lavorare con studenti di diverse culture in un'atmosfera amichevole e collaborativa.

2.       Hanno imparato qualcosa sui paesi dei partner stranieri, come i sistemi scolastici, le specialità alimentari, alcuni aspetti della loro cultura, abitudini, religione e alcune parole nella loro lingua. La visita alla moschea è stata occasione per apprendere sulle abitudini religiose dei musulmani. Infine hanno imparato a comunicare meglio in inglese e scoperto che l'interazione con studenti stranieri è divertente oltre che educativa. Infine hanno scoperto, nonostante la differenza linguistica, di avere molte cose in comune con gli altri studenti europei.

3.       Hanno dato anche un giudizio sulle attività che hanno preferito rispetto ad altre. Molti di loro hanno gradito particolarmente i laboratori "Command of the language", "Getting to know each other" e "The typical dish". Quelli che sono stati alla moschea hanno lamentato il poco tempo per fare domande dopo la presentazione della guida. Lo stesso appunto è stato fatto da chi ha incontrato l'europarlamentare fiammingo che, oltre ad arrivare in ritardo, è sembrato più interessato a fare il suo discorso che ad ascoltare le domande che gli studenti avevano preparato per lui. Non hanno gradito il questionario sulla conoscenza dell'UE perchè noioso e il laboratorio "Solidarity and Justice" perchè il film era in Neerlandese e non capivano molto. Molti di loro hanno lamentato l'insufficiente organizzazione della giornata ma tutti si sono divertiti nello spettacolo finale dove tutti i gruppi si sono esibiti e hanno assaggiato i piatti tipici di ciascuno.
